My top books of the 21st Century
I love reading Best of lists. I don’t expect to agree with them (I don’t think that’s the point) but I love the exercise of trying to rank and rate books or movies or wine or, well, anything. But books especially. It forces you to think about things you’ve enjoyed in the past, and maybe Continue reading

Sloane Crossley’s Grief is for People
I read this Cory Doctorow piece the other day on how his digital blog acts as his searchable, connectable commonplace notebook and it made me want to go back to publishing my notes that way so here we are. I read Crossley’s book in a COVID delirium. I couldn’t sleep on Wednesday night and when Continue reading

This book surprised me. It starts out as a typical suburban drama but then all of the sudden turns magical, in the best possible way. #25wordbookreviews Continue reading

2022 Goals and Resolutions
I am a real nerd when it comes to New Year’s resolutions and after a couple of years of keeping to really basic More/Less drawings, I’m back to more rigorous planning for 2022. I think it’s because I’m starting to feel ever so slightly >hopeful<. Hopeful that these terrible pandemic years are coming to an Continue reading

Behind Schedule
I have not been reading very much this year. Or rather, I should say that I’ve not been reading many books. I am spending an inordinate amount of time surfing the internet, scrolling through Instagram, and reading a ton of online newspapers and blogs. All fine things to do in moderation, but normally I spend Continue reading

Vic’s Top Ten Books from 2020
2020 was a shit year for me, for almost everything except for reading. I blew right by my goal of reading 75 books and ended the year having enjoyed 86. You can see everything I read and rated here but perhaps more interesting is my list of the ten best. Hollywood Park: A Memoir by Continue reading

Vic’s Top Ten Books of 2019
2019 was a really solid year for reading. My life was up and down and all over the place and my aggressive goal of reading 80 books kept bringing me back to reading when a lot of the time all I wanted to do was surf the internet. Don’t get me wrong, there are times Continue reading
About Me
I’m Victoria Griffith and I am enthusiastic about a LOT of things. Pine trees and mushrooms and the desert. Ocotillos, motorcycles, travel, and photography. Friendship and writing and books and surviving the love of your life’s terminal diagnosis. I blog about some of these things here, mostly about books and writing, but about the other stuff now and then too.
I was born in Paterson NJ, call Seattle WA my home, and spend the winters in the desert of Southern California. I try to get out to see as much of the world as time and money will allow.
