Life Will Be the Death of Me by Chelsea Handler

Normally not a Handler fan but I really enjoyed this audiobook where she discusses the death of her young brother and her introduction to therapy. #25wordbookreviews (link) Continue reading

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb

Incredibly thoughtful and immensely readable memoir about talk therapy from both sides of the couch. Reminded me of the best parts of Tiny Beautiful Things. #25wordbookreviews (link) Continue reading

This Is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp

This fast-paced novel about a school shooting doesn’t offer any solutions to this horrible epidemic but I’m not sure how it could in 300 pages. #25wordbookreviews (link) Continue reading

Tiny Hot Dogs: A Memoir in Small Bites by Mary Giuliani

Reading this memoir is just like eating pigs in a blanket — easy, quick and delicious. Perfect if you’re in the mood for something light. #25wordbookreviews (link) Continue reading

Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive by Stephanie Land

A glimpse into just how hard (and hopeless) being poor in America can be. Others have worse stories, sure, but this one was pretty rough. #25wordbookreviews (link) PS: This is the book I wrote about back in January, when I read a great excerpt in the NYT. Continue reading

Good Talk by Mira Jacob

Mira Jacob is amazing. Loved her novel, love this graphic memoir. Jacob’s son’s innocent questions frame a discussion on race, family, and much more. #25wordbookreviews Continue reading

Help by Simon Amstell

My addiction to British memoirs audiobooks led me here. I imagine Amstell’s stand-up is funnier than this longer form can manage, but it’s still entertaining. #25wordbookreview (link) Continue reading

Wolfpack by Abby Wambach

I am obsessed with Abby’s in-real-life Wolfpack so these stars are for her extraordinary efforts to raise up women. The book is just an intro. #25wordbookreview (link) Continue reading

Normal People by Sally Rooney

I wanted to hate this book on account of its incredible hype but it’s actually good. A lovely story about a relationship full of miscommunication. #25wordbookreviews (link) Continue reading
About Me
I’m Victoria Griffith and I am enthusiastic about a LOT of things. Pine trees and mushrooms and the desert. Ocotillos, motorcycles, travel, and photography. Friendship and writing and books and surviving the love of your life’s terminal diagnosis. I blog about some of these things here, mostly about books and writing, but about the other stuff now and then too.
I was born in Paterson NJ, call Seattle WA my home, and spend the winters in the desert of Southern California. I try to get out to see as much of the world as time and money will allow.
