Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Am I really enjoying a whole book about a fake band, complete with fake song lyrics, and fake controversies? Yes, I guess I am. Cool. #25wordbookreviews (link) Continue reading

The River by Peter Heller

Peter Heller combines nature + art so beautifully that even with the violence and impending death, I find myself fantasizing about a trip like this. #25wordbookreviews (link) Continue reading

Eat, Drink, Run by Bryony Gordon

The idea of a fat woman running a marathon while still drinking and smoking lured me in but I stayed for the hilarious, lovely voice. #25wordbookreviews (link) Continue reading

A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne

Took me forever to get what this book was doing, and I almost quit several times, but in the end this was a *great* read. #25wordbookreviews (link) Continue reading

My Thoughts Exactly by Lily Allen

This is one of those memoirs where the author is interesting but hasn’t evolved in any meaningful way so it feels … empty. Lovely reading voice. #25wordbookreview (link) Continue reading

She Wants It by Jill Soloway

Fascinating and well-written Hollywood memoir that occasionally veers into overly academic topics and prose. Especially great if you’re a fan of Transparent. Fantastic on audio. #25wordbookreview (link) Continue reading

Bad Blood by John Carreyrou
Holy Shit, this is good. It’s a nonfiction account of the craziness that was Theranos but swear to God it reads like a fantastic thriller. #25wordreview (link) Continue reading

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Stephen Frey on audio is a dream but I’m done with HP. This is a series that’s great for kids, but it’s not for me. #25wordbookreview (link) Continue reading

On the Come Up by Angie Thomas

Just as good as The Hate U Give. Audiobook bonus: narrator Bahni Turpin rapping. #25wordbookreviews (link) Continue reading

Natural Causes
This started out great, blowing my mind with contrarian thoughts on health care — but it devolved into a bit on nonsense later on. Still interesting. #25wordbookreview (link) Continue reading
About Me
I’m Victoria Griffith and I am enthusiastic about a LOT of things. Pine trees and mushrooms and the desert. Ocotillos, motorcycles, travel, and photography. Friendship and writing and books and surviving the love of your life’s terminal diagnosis. I blog about some of these things here, mostly about books and writing, but about the other stuff now and then too.
I was born in Paterson NJ, call Seattle WA my home, and spend the winters in the desert of Southern California. I try to get out to see as much of the world as time and money will allow.
