Vic’s Top 10 Books Read in 2018
2018 was a GREAT year for reading. I was lagging behind my Goodreads Challenge goal of 75 books for much of the year, but a very quiet few weeks at the end of December allowed me to catch up and even read one more for a total of 76. In all I rated nine books Continue reading

#tbt: What’s Eating Gilbert Grape by Peter Hedges

It’s 1991, and I’m lying on my bed in my dorm room. I’m a freshman in college, and it’s the first time I’ve been on my own, away from my close but incredibly dysfunctional family. I’m making friends, sort of, but I don’t feel like I entirely click with my housemates. I’m shy. I’m overweight Continue reading

Combating Despair with Facts
The other day I was in a coffee shop working on my laptop and I overheard an interesting conversation happening next to me. A woman in her 30s was having coffee and talking with two older adults, who I assume are her parents. The woman’s talking about politics and about how terrible this administration is Continue reading

I love autumn.

Went for a late afternoon motorcycle ride in the sunshine today. Stopped at a coffee shop and sat and read the new Kate Atkinson for a little bit. I’m developing a relationship with KA — I don’t love everything she writes, and she’s not really easy for me to read. But some of her books Continue reading

Summer (non)Reading
The already too-short Seattle summer is coming to a premature end due to dense wildfire smoke. While this makes me all kinds of sad, one positive aspect is that it’s put me back into the groove of reading. I haven’t read a ton these past few months, slowing down my pace of book consumption to Continue reading

Samantha Irby is gross and I love her.
I just finished listening to the audiobook of Meaty by Samantha Irby. She is hilarious. It was wonderful to listen to in my car last weekend when I was driving by myself out in the mountains. It was slightly uncomfortable to listen to sitting in traffic with my windows open the next day though because, Continue reading

What I’m Reading
I’m doing a shitty job of hitting my goal of writing weekly blog posts. We’re 12 weeks into the new year and I’ve only written eight posts (including this one) so I’m at 67%, which is like a D+. Gotta step up my game. Anyway, I may not have been writing but I have been Continue reading

Regrets, I’ve Had a Few; or, My Writing History and What I’ve Learned from It
My name is Elise, and I am a writer. Or at least I try to be. In some senses I am; I did work as a ghostwriter for nearly a decade and write upward of fifty books in that time. So I think that qualifies me. And I have notebooks and thumb drives full of Continue reading

Books About Sketchbooks
I went to India last week for work. It was an AMAZING trip. When normal people make a trip like that they come back with jewel-toned scarves and golden bangles or delicious tea and spices. I unpacked and realized I brought back six new sketchbooks*. You could say I have a problem, yes. I’ve been Continue reading
About Me
I’m Victoria Griffith and I am enthusiastic about a LOT of things. Pine trees and mushrooms and the desert. Ocotillos, motorcycles, travel, and photography. Friendship and writing and books and surviving the love of your life’s terminal diagnosis. I blog about some of these things here, mostly about books and writing, but about the other stuff now and then too.
I was born in Paterson NJ, call Seattle WA my home, and spend the winters in the desert of Southern California. I try to get out to see as much of the world as time and money will allow.
