Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark

I wanted to understand why people are obsessed with true crime. The last chapter helped. It’s still not for me, but I kinda get it. #25wordbookreview (Amzn) Continue reading

Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane

I love novels about the never-quite-complete (but still somehow beautiful) recovery from trauma. This one is hopeful without being trite, about many types of love. #25wordbookreview (Amzn) Continue reading

I Like to Watch by Emily Nussbaum

God, was this a great book. I didn’t realize how hungry I was to hear modern television discussed as the art form it really is. #25wordbookreviews (Amzn) Continue reading

City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert

The first novel I think I’ve ever read where a woman has an independent lifestyle and a healthy sexual appetite… and isn’t ruined by them. #25wordbookreview (Amzn) Continue reading

Very Nice by Marcy Dermansky

Not so terrible that I stopped reading, I guess. One of those novels where everyone is an asshole and you’re supposed to find it funny. #25wordbookreviews (Amazon) Continue reading

Three Women by Lisa Taddeo

I would love the book this was advertised to be — but it was actually about three women’s painful sexual experiences, delivered with soft-core porn detail. #25wordbookreviews (Amazon) Continue reading

The Valedictorian of Being Dead by Heather B Armstrong

Fascinating memoir about the dooce.com author’s devastating struggle with depression and the harrowing experimental treatment she endured to find relief. Great voice — funny surprisingly often. #25wordbookreviews (Amazon). Continue reading

Every Tool’s A Hammer by Adam Savage

I loved the half of this that covered Savage’s love of making. The rest was fine but just not for me (Cosplay and other obsessions). #25wordbookreviews (Amazon) Continue reading

Hot Young Widows Club by Nora McInerny Purmont

I read this because I really liked the author’s previous memoir on grief. This one isn’t quite as good and the two together are redundant. #25wordbookreviews (Amazon) Continue reading

Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes

Charming little novel about the types of love and friendship we seek as adults — complicated and flawed, but still quite wonderful. Great summer read. #25wordbookreviews (on Amazon) Continue reading
About Me
I’m Victoria Griffith and I am enthusiastic about a LOT of things. Pine trees and mushrooms and the desert. Ocotillos, motorcycles, travel, and photography. Friendship and writing and books and surviving the love of your life’s terminal diagnosis. I blog about some of these things here, mostly about books and writing, but about the other stuff now and then too.
I was born in Paterson NJ, call Seattle WA my home, and spend the winters in the desert of Southern California. I try to get out to see as much of the world as time and money will allow.
